Two new teams have been added to Legends League Cricket (LLC), a global T20 cricket league that will be played in five different locations throughout India beginning in November. The league is made up of recently retired international cricket players. The owners of LLC informed Mint that the two new teams, Urbanrisers Hyderabad and Southern Super Stars, each paid $15 million to enter the league.
Trident Power Pvt Ltd managing director JC Pavan Reddy and real estate developer Urbanrise group own the Hyderabad team. In addition, Reddy leads the Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association as its president.
A group of businesses, led by Sanjay Jupudi and Srinadh Chitoori, founded KLO Sports, which owns Southern Super Stars. Gautam Reddy and Ranjeeth Rathod, among others, will be crucial to the project.
GMR Sports, which also co-owns the Delhi Capitals of the Indian Premier League (IPL), is the owner of the reigning champion, the India Caps. Adani Sportline is the owner of the Gujarat Giants team, which is also the owner of the Gujarat Giants squad in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL). The LNJ Bhilwara Group owns Bhilwara Kings, while Manipal Education and Medical Group owns Manipal Tigers.
Two formats were developed by LLC’s organisers for a domestic and an international event. The six-team private-franchise league began play in September of last year. Raman Raheja, co-founder and CEO of Legends League Cricket said, “After the first season, we have signed two big corporate houses. We look forward to creating value for all the franchisees and build a very strong business case with LLC.”
This season’s competition, which will take place in Ranchi, Dehradun, Jammu, Vizag, and Surat, will feature 200 players and 19 matches.
