Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the Indian Men’s Hockey team on winning a historic gold medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou and announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh for each player and support staff on the winning team.
In recognition of the Indian men’s hockey team’s outstanding performance in winning the coveted Gold and securing a spot in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, a cash award was announced.
In the final, the Indian team easily defeated Japan, the reigning champions, 5-1.
Following the medal ceremony, Patnaik had a video conversation with the Indian team. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the team was overjoyed to receive the Chief Minister’s personal congratulations.
“My heartiest congratulations to the victorious Indian Men’s Hockey Team. Their unwavering dedication and hard work have once again proven that Hockey is truly India’s game, embodying our nation’s unyielding spirit. In Odisha, where Hockey holds a special place in our hearts, this historic day will forever be etched in our memories as a momentous triumph for our beloved sport and our nation. I wish the Indian Team the very best as they prepare for the Paris Olympic Games next year.” said the Chief Minister in the congratulatory message.
India’s victory at the esteemed quadrennial event brings an end to a nine-year wait to take first place. India had defeated archrival Pakistan in 2014 to win the gold medal.
Since 2018, Odisha has sponsored the Indian hockey teams, helping them through two world cups and other important competitions.
