The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) has officially announced a new sponsorship deal with Wonder Cement, a leading cement manufacturing company. As part of this four-year agreement, Wonder Cement has been named the official umpire partner of the league, replacing Paytm.

Under the terms of the deal, Wonder Cement’s logo will be prominently displayed on the umpires’ uniforms, caps, LED parameters, and the sight screen directly in front of the wicket. In the IPL, only the title sponsor and the umpire sponsor are granted the rights to the sight screen, the league’s largest LED asset.

With this partnership, Wonder Cement becomes the first cement company to partner with the IPL, marking a significant milestone. The brand will gain exposure starting from the IPL 2024 Playoffs, beginning with the Qualifier 1 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

The inclusion of Wonder Cement in the IPL’s sponsorship portfolio enhances the league’s already impressive lineup of partners, which includes the TATA Group, Angel One, My11Circle, RuPay, and CEAT. This move is expected to heighten competition within the cement industry, particularly as the real estate market in India continues to grow. Cement, steel, TMT bars, and pipes manufacturing companies are anticipated to intensify their marketing efforts to increase market share.

This development could lead to further competitive responses in the industry. Similar to how Dream11 reacted when My11Circle outbid them to become an IPL associate sponsor by securing partnerships with four IPL teams and on-air media buys, companies like UltraTech and Ambuja Cements might pursue proactive sports property acquisitions to counter Wonder Cement’s new visibility.
